“Arikara Scout” -The Arikara were often Cavalry scouts. Many were killed at The Battle if Little Big Horn including Custer’s favorite scout “Bloody Knife”. The red sash was worn as a means of identification so they weren’t accidentally targeted by the soldiers. As you can imagine the same sash also made them a target of other native tribes.
