“New Ears for Old Tales” Gicleé Prints

“New Ears for Old Tales” – As an artist who paints the Native American subject matter, the depiction of the warrior in full regalia is a favorite to portray. However, I have found it as much or more rewarding to portray the daily life of the Native American people as well. The idea for this painting came from a somewhat organic situation at a reference photoshoot. Three models were sitting together during a break discussing the arrow and regalia one of them had personally made. One of them was clearly interested, while the other was more consumed with taking in the warm sun. I love taking reference images when models don’t know they are posing. It was an easy transition from that scene to the canvas where I could imagine a similar scenario a century and a half ago. Perhaps the story of a hunt being recounted. One set of ears intently listening while the other may have heard the story before and is much more consumed with relaxing in the sun.
